In his Just Sayin' column last October, copyeditor Jack
Welch wrote, "Oddly enough, the innocuous portman-
teau joining of 'Kentucky' and 'Indiana' started out as a
single, non-connecting word, meaning artifacts and oth-
er things characteristic of Kentucky, much like the word
'Americana.'" Welch added that 42 counties make up
the "nebulous union" that is Kentuckiana. Now, here's
hoping we never have to type that word again. — Ed.

Louisville Magazine won the goat race at the
inaugural NuLu Bock Beer Fest in late March. We
named our goat Kid Bock and dressed him like Kid
Rock, gold chain and all. No, we did not make him
shotgun a beer.
