covered. John Glaser went to Bellarmine and
worked as a schoolteacher before founding The Floor
Store in 1979. As a kid, John's son Matthew learned
about hard work from the former teacher: "When
I wanted to earn money to buy my frst Nintendo,
I had to come down and clean toilets." Matthew
graduated from Indiana University Southeast and is
now general manager. Matthew's brother, Patrick,
works as an installer and John still does most of the
measuring.
The family continues to honor the store's
founding values through price and service. These
guys also revere their stake in the future of fooring
by regularly educating salespeople and maintaining
stock of high-value, high-grade options. For
example, the store is constantly expanding its in-
stock wool carpet selection. Why? Because wool
carpet is the best soft surface material out there,
according to Matthew: "It's natural, sustainable and
beautiful." It's also durable and great for people with
allergies!
The Floor Store's staff of installers, refnishers,
