LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 5.16 31 Mitchell Morris (client), Derby City Chop Shop "The last time I got a haircut here was right before a job interview." Sandy Kindig (client spouse) "We've been married for 10 years, so I can say anything. He grew his beard for Movember and decided to keep it. It was a bit too scraggly, so I told him he had to trim it. It was ALL over my face. "We're moving to Louisville from Memphis. It's a lot more stylish here than I would have ever thought it would be. I mean, you would never see a pompadour haircut like that in Memphis. Never." Matt Messer (client), Derby City Chop Shop "Apparently I look like I'm 12, but I'll be 33 next month. Just imagine me without a beard. It's worse." Stephanie Rothman (barber), Market Street Barbers "I'm good at doing things with my hands. But I'm just not really a people person, so I think it's strange that this is my job of choice. I mean, I talk to my clients, but my favorite is when someone is asleep and I get to cut their hair, they wake up and they leave." Haley Jones (barber), Market Street Barbers "My No. 1 priority in life? Making money. That's all I want to do is make money. If I'm not making money, then I don't think I could be happy. That might sound bad, but if I wasn't making good money here, as much as I love doing what I do, I don't think I would be happy doing it because I would be struggling to do what I love." Dakota Coppage (barber), Derby City Chop Shop "We all went to the same school: Tri-City (Barber College). It's actually one of the oldest barber schools in the country. They've been here for a very, very long time. It's a Louisville staple as far as the barber community goes."
