LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 3.16 21 Caden Ray "It's a great day. I'm about to turn 13 this Friday. We just got back from the mall. I got a skateboard for my birthday. You have to pick out the trucks and the bearings, and the place gave me a lot of stickers too." Michael Miller "I'm going back to school for somatic counseling, which is counseling that keeps in mind body-based processes. So if someone has experienced trauma, generally just sitting and talking about it doesn't help. I had a really close relative who had been affected by domestic violence and they had been isolated from a lot of people. We ended up square dancing at the library for the How-To Festival, and we were really awful. We ran into other people, but I saw this person I knew really well — their posture opened up, they were laughing and smiling, they were looking at people in a way they hadn't been able to before." Marshall Manley "Unless you're born into it or you've got the money from your family to support you, I mean, working-class actors, they don't make it big most of the time because they can't focus their life on it. I've been auditioning through Heyman, the talent agency in town. Plays have been off the table because it's a one-, two-month rehearsal process and that's when I work. Most of the time they don't pay the bills, so you just kind of have to pass on them. I didn't even start till college, honestly. I was too shy. I probably always had the interest. I just one day decided to take a chance. You have to love it, otherwise there's no reason to do it." Ian "Right now I'm reading The Energy Bus. It's supposed to build up your team skills and positive thinking. I'm a commercial site manager at the airport for a detailing company. We live in an energy world. If you put your mind to it, you can do it. "I recently moved back to Louisville from Atlanta. I found out I had a three- year-old, so I'm a year into being a dad. I didn't know until she approached me on Facebook. She claimed that she thought he was her boyfriend's at the time. It's whatever. I can't take it back, but I promised my son I would never miss another moment. We did a private paternity test and then we did one through the courts, but it didn't even take that. Once I met him — he looks just like me. A spitting image." Linda Evans "Every now and then you get someone that's had a bad day, but you always have to put yourself in their position, on what kind of day they've had, and kind of make them feel better, and make them feel wanted. You know what I'm saying?"
