Letitia Quesenberry Letitia Quesenberry, 42 Favorite medium: drawing letitiaquesenberry.com Quesenberry's work is wonderfully nostalgic. She layers together photography, wax, plaster and light until it's like a hazy memory. My objective "is to encourage closer observation of the obscure." (Recent works include three-dimensional drawings, photographic prints and text-based sculptures using light and mirrors.) We've asked you to design a cover for Louisville Magazine that sums up the city. What would you do? "Plain cover. No words. 'LOUISVILLE' is laser-cut out." What is your favorite tool to work with? "If I had to choose only one: pencil." What are you trying to say through your work? "Pay attention. Slow down. Be curious." Inspiration tends to come "from confusion. Or when I see something that stops me. It happens anywhere. Often, if I am stumped by a particular project, a solution will come suddenly in the shower or while doing mundane tasks like sweeping the foor or tidying my studio." Louisville "is affordable. The place seems to have an unpredictable quirkiness that I like." From the "as of yet" series (polished plaster, panel, wax, graphite). 10.13 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 43
