STUDIO
SHOT
Carpenter Sean Selby, 43, moved his studio to this Lytle Street
warehouse in the Portland neighborhood in January 2013. He has
the frst foor to himself, but the building is occupied by a diverse
lot: four artists, a frame shop and an architect who's been there
for more than 30 years. And there's activity around the building
too, with new neighbors the Tim Faulkner Gallery and the Louis-
ville Film Society.
Selby spends most of his time making cabinetry, tables and a
bit of furniture. But his neighbors sometimes break his routine. "A
lot of the visual artists ask me to build something they're working
on," he says. "It ends up being a beautiful piece of art."
The studio is an inspiring place for Selby. "I like the big open-
ness; I feel like I can breathe," he says. "It reminds me that there
are infnite possibilities — you've got the opportunity right now to
do anything you can imagine."
