38 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 7.15 Photo by Aaron Kingsbury Bes of Louisvile Awards 2015 Some places and people have been winning Best of Louisville plaques since the beginning. For our inaugural awards, in July 1986, W.W. Cousins won for best hamburger, Terry Meiners for radio personality, the Bristol for neighborhood bar, Nanz and Kraft for forist, Rodes for men's store. On the fip side, you can pour one out for year-one winners Hawley-Cooke Booksellers, Casa Grisanti, Phoenix Hill Tavern (just closed, if you hadn't heard).... Hell, that frst year we ran these two categories: travel agency and VCR rental shop. A lot can happen in three decades. So to celebrate Best of Louisville's 30th anniversary, we discover what's best about Louisville right now, mourn some of the best things we've lost since '86, and determine what's best for our future. Oh, and we're throwing a party: July 30 at PLAY Dance Bar in Butchertown. You should come: bestofou.com.
