"My brother introduced me to peaty scotch a couple of years ago. It pretty much tastes like your dad put his leather wallet in a glass of bourbon 20 years ago and forgot about it. It's awesome! My good friend moved away last weekend, and we split a $70 bottle called Peat Monster. It tasted like your dad put two of his wallets in a glass of bourbon." What's a home bar incomplete without? "A bottle-cap opener on the wall. It sounds silly, but we bought one about a year ago, and it gets used all the time. I feel like George McFly in Back To The Future every time I use it." Biggest drinking pet peeve? "Some people take a fnger and rub the oil on the outside of their nose, then swirl the fnger in their beer to help the foam go down. I understand it works, but it makes me uncomfortable." When do you know to cut yourself off? "When I'm on my third karaoke performance of that Evanescence song where she does the duet with that guy from Linkin Park or whatever. I love doing the guy's part, when he just yells, 'Wake me up! Can't wake up!'" What closed Louisville restaurant do you miss the most? "Back in 2005, Benedict's Garden Cafe on Baxter Avenue was serving imaginative vegetarian food. I don't know why, but today even some of Louisville's best restaurants only serve roasted vegetables or veggie burgers. It's depressing. When traveling to Philly/ Chicago/New York, you can get crazy stuff — like veg Philly cheesesteaks, Reubens, wings. Even Cincinnati has some cool stuff like that. The 'analogue meats' world has made leaps and bounds over the last 10 years, and once Louisville restaurants realize it's not only vegetarians or vegans who want stuff like this on the menu, they'll come around. Benedict's and Swan Dive (the building now houses Hammerheads) were probably one or two years away from the big veg boom. I have a feeting dream of owning a vegan deli, kind of set up like Lotsa Pasta, but jerky is the only life for me right now." gumerjewelry.com
