78 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 11.17 Louisville metro-area public schools offer a variety of options to fit just about any child's specific interests or needs, including "traditional," "magnet" and "optional" schools and programs. The application period for middle and high school optional programs begins in early November and ends in early January. Applications for elementary school optional programs begin in early February and end in early March. Students new to the district may apply after the deadlines, but placement depends on available openings and schools' specific admissions criteria. To learn more about these options, contact your local public school district.
