"We tend to feel anger and disappoint- ment in our gut," Calzi says. "The core is our seat of power. Abdominal twists are a great way to release those strong emotions." So next time the Cards miss the winning shot, just twist it out. Office Chair Crunch While rolling chairs can be comfy, sitting all day hunches the shoulders and crunches the body together. Calzi suggests stretching out after work with downward-facing dog (essentially form- ing an upside-down V with your body, with your palms and feet on the ground and your back straight and head down). "It strengthens and lengthens the muscles in the body, reduces tension and tightness in the shoulders, allows the neck to relax, and brings blood flow to the brain," Calzi says. Hangover Hell "I'm just drinking one or two beers to- night" turns into shots of bourbon and Vegas Bombs. We've all been there. "The best advice for a hangover is to sweat and move," Calzi says. "A stand- ing forward bend will help to stretch out the muscles that may feel achy. It also helps calm and quiet the mind, promotes restful sleep and regulates blood pressure." Bad Traffic Intentions Calzi says there is a pose you can do behind the wheel to keep you cooler than your engine coolant. "Focus on breath. Take deep inhales and exhales. Then combine breathing with neck rolls. Move side-to-side and then in complete circles," she says. This stretch will reduce tension in your neck. When someone cuts you off, you'll feel so relaxed you'll flip them a peace sign instead of a middle finger. Overin-bulged It's easy to overindulge in Louisville with so much Southern comfort food, oodles of noodles and tasty treats. For an unhappy belly, Calzi suggests the "happy baby" pose (while lying on your back, bend your legs at the knee to form a right angle, then grab the bottom of your feet and pull your thighs toward your chest). "It will help create space in your abdomen and move food and air through your digestive system — allowing you to feel more comfort- able," Calzi says. (2210 Dundee Road) — Katie Molck Louisville can be stressful. Add that mess of construction traffic to a desk job at Humana and things get tense quick. But relax! 502 Power Yoga instructor Jamie Calzi has five quick and easy poses to ease up the Louisvillian strain.
