Horses and Hope: Providing Education and Screening for Multiple Cancers for Men and Women Across the State Horses and Hope was established in 2008 at University of Louisville by former First Lady Jane Beshear and the Kentucky Cancer Program. Initially, breast cancer education, screening and treatment referral was provided for uninsured and underserved horse industry workers and their families. Jane Beshear expanded this mission by raising funds for a cancer screening van. Made possible by many generous sponsors from across the state, the van is now on the road providing education and screening services for multiple cancers for men and women in Kentucky. The service is operated by the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, KentuckyOne Health. Horses and Hope is an integral part of the Parade of Pink for breast cancer survivors at the Kentucky Oaks. Churchill Downs donates $1 from each purchase of the Grey Goose Oaks Lily drink to Horses and Hope. For learn more, call the Kentucky Cancer Program, (502) 852-6318, or visit www.horsesandhope.org.
