When The Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers honored Frank with its statewide award years ago, he was recognized for "complete knowledge of the law, keen sense of strategy, effective negotiating skills, thorough and exhaustive trial preparation, excellent trial skills, unique style and persuasive way with juries." These words still ring true today. Frank Mascagni enjoys practicing law, litigating civil cases and tackling the challenges presented in protecting the constitutional rights of citizens accused of criminal offenses. Frank Mascagni's clients come from many different walks of life, but they are all at risk of losing their jobs, their driver's and professional licenses, their freedom and potentially their lives. When the odds and evidence are stacked against clients in criminal cases or they need to protect themselves in civil litigation, they need a competent, zealous, experienced trial lawyer. Frank Mascagni, III, was born in Greenville, Mississippi in the late 1940s. After graduating from University of Louisville School of Law in 1976, he served as Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, prosecuting white collar crimes and career criminals before entering private practice in 1979. Frank devotes the majority of his practice to criminal law defense in state and federal courts, handling a variety of litigation, criminal and civil — from DUI jury trials to defense of death penalty cases. In addition to a demanding trial practice, Frank speaks frequently at bar functions and legal seminars and writes articles on criminal law and procedure and professional responsibility. Frank was involved with the biggest drug conspiracy case in the Western District of Kentucky following his decision to represent a client described as the leader of the largest cocaine distribution in Louisville's history. He tried two lengthy death-penalty cases where he helped his clients avoid the ultimate penalty and successfully litigated a civil case in Jefferson Circuit Court and is defending the judgment at the Kentucky Court of Appeals. One of his jury trial closing arguments may be viewed on YouTube. After 40 years as a trial lawyer, he remains a passionate and effective litigator.
