86 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 7.16 OVERVIEW Steel City Pops 1021 Bardstown Road THE POPSICLES: Caramel Chai latte Lime Pomegranate Sour-cream-and-cherry Strawberry lemonade THE PARTY: Mary Chellis Austin, deputy editor Dylon Jones, associate editor Elizabeth Myers, contributing writer Suki Anderson, art director Mickie Winters, photographer Owen, Winters' son "You can watch them make the popsicles over in the back. You can see the kitchen. There's windows." — EM "I just had a real chai latte, and this popsicle has more spice. It's heavier on the cinnamon and the cardamom, but it's still really good." — MW "Is that chocolate on the top? Oh, yeah, that does kind of look like tea grounds." — DJ "The caramel is almost like ice cream." — DJ "The lime tastes like water." — MCA "The pomegranate tastes sweet and tart. But I don't get a pomegranate favor." — SA "I had a strawberry one. It tastes like lemonade, but strawberry-ade." — Owen "So you got sour-cream-and- cherry?" — DJ "Do you want to try? If you don't mind eating after me…" — EM "I don't if you don't. Aw, man, this is, like, so soft." — DJ "Why eat a popsicle when you can just eat ice cream out of a little cup?" — MCA "Nostalgia." — SA "And you can easily walk and eat it." — EM "Sometimes it's so hot that you can't even eat it in time. It melts all over your arm." — MCA "You're like, I'm having fun — even though I'm not doing anything but standing here — because I'm eating a popsicle." — MW "I like how they change up the options a lot." — MCA "I had the pineapple jalapeño and really liked it." — EM "If I bit into this popsicle my teeth would explode." — MW
