The Kentucky Folk Art Center at Morehead State University is the only art museum in Appalachian Kentucky and the official repository for folk art from the Commonwealth. With a permanent collection of 1,400 pieces, KFAC houses the nation's only collection of folk art from a single state or region. Many of these pieces are presented in a permanent, rotating exhibition on the Center's first floor. KFAC's second floor gallery hosts several changing exhibitions each year, and the Center produces nationally touring exhibitions of Kentucky folk art. This summer KFAC will host Outside in Ohio: A Century of Unexpected Genius, the first ever survey exhibition of Ohio folk art. Nationally recognized as one of the best small art museums in America, Kentucky Folk Art Center is a special place. The Christian Science Monitor has called KFAC a "Rosetta Stone for understanding the recent evolution in folk art," and National Geographic has recognized the Center as an important cultural destination for anyone visiting the region. The best time to visit is the first weekend in June, when KFAC hosts A Day in the Country folk art fair, where visitors can purchase works directly from dozens of the nation's finest folk artists.
