86 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 2.15 Choose a Character One Question Joe Monroe is directing The Oxford Incident, WhoDunnit Murder Mystery Theater's original play onstage Feb. 14-March 28 at Hilton Garden Inn (2735 Crittenden Drive). While you eat dinner, actors perform one scene at a time, breaking between for "table walks" — improvised portions that let audience members ask clue-gathering questions. Characters must be truthful in answering whatever you ask them. Unless you ask if they did it. "This play is about a typical upper-class family in New York in the '70s. The uncle dies before coming out with a tell-all book that gives away his family's secrets," Monroe says. "The detective is a regular Joe — a Columbo- style guy." arts the bits viastudio.com nawbolouisville.com Louisville native Sharon P.S. Marx, 72, is the author of Looking for Love Through Thicker Lenses. Drawing from years of personal experience and interviews, Marx insists her book is not a "how- to" guide but rather "opens the doors and clears the air" about dating later in life. Marx will sign her book at the Frankfort Avenue Carmichael's at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13, aka Friday the 13th, aka Valentine's Day eve. Any advice for shy people? "Sometimes you have to push yourself. It's like happiness — happiness doesn't come to you, you know? If you sit in your house and wait for happiness to knock on your door, you're going to be sitting there a pretty long time. "I did read a quote once that I really liked, and it was that, 'You can't cross a chasm in baby steps. You can only go once, in one step.' And dating isn't rocket science. You can go out to dinner, you can go to an opera, a ballet, you can go to see the Cards win. It's not hard." — Mariah Douglas
