This issue of your magazine has done more to educate me about coal and the associated issues surrounding coal in Kentucky than any other media source I can think of. And your publication did this by informing, not advocating. A welcome relief after the months of tiresome, shrill political argumentation in the media reporting the national and local news. Jim Smith Simpsonville From the Sunny Side I have to partly agree with Barbara Ruby (who wrote in last month and mentioned how she doesn't like some of the magazine's "size and format" changes in recent years). I haven't liked a cover since I re-subscribed several months ago after some time away. I'd never buy it off the shelf on that basis. Layout hasn't turned me on much either. The artwork is cold, stark, industrial. Very unappealing. Content — it is telling that I can't remember much about it. I like the annual issues detailing doctors, lawyers, restaurants, etc. I keep those. Change is always upsetting. Rarely is it refreshing. The January cover, while dismal, is appropriate. Coal is a huge issue. On that subject, I think we are wasting a great resource: our roofs. They should all be covered with solar receptors. We would power our own homes and add power into the grid that would eventually be a never-ending surplus. This should become a major priority that would create many jobs. Pat Harmon Depauw, Indiana Iron Man Your short piece on Sherman Blankenship and his Iron Touch studio was great. He made a handrail in the form of a vine for my back deck, where it has become the centerpiece. He is a wonderful artist working in a diffcult medium. Stephen Smith East End Trés Trez We forgot to credit photographer Gail Kamenish for January's "Backboard," which was this fearsome photo of U of L hoops star Montrezl Harrell. We ran it in anticipation of January's U of L-Duke matchup. (Writing this the Saturday of the U of L-Duke game. No way the Blue Devils win, right? — Ed.) Sign us up for that class Arielle Christian's December 2014 feature "Where They Don't Belong" (about dozens of the city's "invisible" homeless living in makeshift camps along the River Road corridor) is amazing. I had to do a double-take a few times to make sure I wasn't reading the New York Times Magazine. Beautifully written, captivating — I couldn't put it down. We are using it as required reading for students interested in medicine, poverty and social justice. It should win some awards! Julia Richerson Pediatrician, Family Health Centers of Louisville This round's on us A spilled drink ruined my copy of SWIG (the boozy supplement published in December), and I was wondering if I could get a new one for free. Adam Walker Salem, Indiana Annulment, err, correction In the spring- summer issue of Louisville Bride, which came out in January, we should have listed Amy Goforth of Merci Bouquet as the planner for the wedding of Emily Strange and Michael Ionescu.
