60 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 12.14
Pinned between ownership
and abandonment, a lost and
found is a random collection
of the misplaced waiting for
the next place — a dump,
Goodwill, familiar hands
swooping in for a reunion.
It's a purgatory of sorts,
lapping up the escapees
of purses, pockets and
rushed exits from here or
there. Gotta run. Do you go
back for that shoe? Those
Groucho glasses? Dentures?
Apparently not, Louisville.
We picked through fve lost
and founds around town
and surveyed the odds
and ends, the strange and
unremarkable possessions
that lay in wait, secluded
in drawers, buckets and
closets. Perhaps left behind
for good. At each stop we
couldn't resist choosing one
thing we'd like to claim and
one that should remain lost
forever. Want to know where
a prosthetic leg was lost and
never claimed? How about
rubber gloves? Let's embark
on this junk hop together.
