LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 10.14 81 kyhumane.org The Face of An imal Welfare Lori Redmon is President and CEO of the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS), a private, nonproft organization dedicated to ending pet overpopulation through proactive programs such as spay/neuter, education and adoption. Redmon has a B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University and has worked in the humane feld for 25 years. Founded in 1884, KHS is Kentucky's largest pet adoption agency and oldest animal welfare organization. Under Redmon's leadership, KHS has become a national leader in the humane industry. KHS saves every adoptable pet that comes through its doors. In 2013 KHS found homes for 6,316 cats and dogs — the most annually in its 130-year history. In August, Redmon announced plans to create the nation's frst stand-alone medical and behavioral rehabilitation center for shelter dogs and cats. The Sam Swope Pet Treatment & Lifesaving Center (TLC), to be located at the KHS Main Campus in south Louisville, will take approximately three years to fully fund and build.
