2 4 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 5.14 POSTCARD Up Spring past Court Avenue is the brand-new location of the Vintage Fire Museum, which has already thrown open its doors. Inside what was once a car-dealership showroom, the museum shows of a feet of bright red and polished-chrome fre engines with histories going way, way back. Te oldest is a prize "hand pumper" from Portsmouth, N.H., built in 1756. "Te museum was located in New Albany, but the building was sold and the lease was going up, so the foundation looked for a new spot for the museum," explains Jim Keith, a Vintage Fire Museum volunteer. "Tey wanted us over here in Jefersonville. It's a good site, and we think things are really going to happen when the Big Four Bridge opens." Tat's what all of this new activity is about, of course, the Big Four Bridge. Jefersonville community leaders hope a Big Four spark I n so many small cities and towns, you drive through and see several glass- window storefronts with nothing behind them. A sign in the window says "For Lease," and there aren't any takers. But not in downtown Jefersonville, Ind. At 256 Spring St., the big glass windows are sparkling clean, and inside, red and black chairs are stacked neatly on tables. A sign proclaims the place to be the Red Yeti Brewing Co., including a motto: "Magnus et Pilosus." Whatever that means. But inside the window there's a blackboard that says "Opening Soon." In the same block there's another glass- front building that isn't quite as far along. Te walls have been stripped down to bare brick and cleaned. Te foor is gravel, with pipes and fooring probably to come next. Up on the ceiling the ductwork appears to be newly concealed behind drywall. Can't tell what this place is going to be, but something!
