Meet two-year-old meerkat momma Penny and her frst baby, Barry. Barry is the sixth
member of the Louisville Zoo's meerkat family, born to Penny and three-year-old Leonard
on Feb. 15. If these names sound familiar, it's because they're all based on characters
from the popular television show The Big Bang Theory. (No word yet if the meerkats enjoy
the Barenaked Ladies theme song.) Zookeeper Drew Koch, 31, says Penny is an aggres-
sive lady, except with Barry. "She does a good job as mom," Koch says, "but they all take
turns caring for him." Good news for Penny, who needs a break to climb termite mounds.
And good news for all mothers out there: You get free admission to the Louisville Zoo on
Mother's Day, which is Sunday, May 11.
