WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO www.napariverlouisville.com In January, the mayor's offce envisioned luring a small manufacturing company to a 30-acre mostly concrete slab at 30th and Muhammad Ali Boulevard in the West End. The city bought the lot (the former home of National Tobacco) from the state. The tab came to half a million. Several months later, the land remains empty. Ted Smith, Metro Louisville's director of economic growth, says he's received a few inquiries, and one company seemed like a "done deal" during the summer before it shifted its focus to eastern Jefferson County and Shelby County. Smith says land out there looks more inviting: green grass, perhaps some new and vacant structures. The west Louisville site "looks more like a blighted space," Smith says. For now, the city doesn't plan on spending more money to spruce it up. Nor are there plans to tie incentives to the site. "What we need to balance is the taxpayer investment in the site itself with the social impact of actually having an employer there," Smith says. Question for a kid What's the best part about autumn?
