To '63 FLASH BACK HAPPENED TO Ghoul "My uncle introduced horror movies to me when I was three," says Michael Book, founder of LouisvilleHalloween.com. His preferred title on the site: Pumpkin King. "As a kid, I would draw Freddy Krueger and his gloves with the knives," he says. "Teachers suggested I get counseling, and the counselor said, 'Eh, he's perfectly fne. He just likes scary movies.'" Book now has nephews who are two. You can practically hear creepy organ music and bursts of maniacal laughter when he says he'll show the boys Halloween in a year or so. Book's website compiles some 20 area haunts, from corn mazes to trails. (The one that spooks us: North of here in Seymour, Ind., is Fear Fair, about which Book says, "Be forewarned: They will touch you.") Book, 31, is also a partner in Danger Run (basically a haunted scavenger hunt from the car) and has been a designer on too many local attractions with "nightmare" in the name to list. The coffn used in Dracula at Actors Theatre? Book made it. A few of his Halloween tips: 1. "For a zombie costume, you can use oatmeal and add a little bit of coloring to it, so it looks like you're rotting away." 2. Don't give trick-or-treaters the candy that can only be described as "those things that come in black or orange wax wrappers." 3. A popular costume this year? "There'll probably be some zombie Miley Cyruses out there," Book says. "God knows what they're going to do with foam fngers." — Josh Moss WHAT EVER Photo by Chris Witzke WELOVE z PORTRAIT MLK THE Michael Book and other junk betting window THIS MONTH IN PRESS RELEASES JUST SAYINÕ A bit DEEPER the And More! 10.13 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 15
