But, yeah, I can't stop." ? one QUESTION Local artist/architect Wadia Newman has participated in the St. James Court Art Show almost every year since 1995. "I was just in Quebec for a show, where there were 70 other artists, and we started talking about Louisville," the 53-year-old says. "They all said they would love to be in Louisville for the St. James. It's considered one of the best shows in North America." The three-day event opens Oct. 4. How do you decide what to draw? "I listen to what the public wants, and when I hear the same thing over and over, I'll draw it — from The Belle of Louisville to the Palace to the courthouse in Bullitt County. I'll also draw buildings that I think are important. I was living outside Kentucky for 13 years and working out West, where everything was stucco. I went crazy when I saw Old Louisville and thought, 'Someone needs to draw this.' I work based on commission, too. I just received a call from Matt Wallace, the new producing artistic director for Kentucky Shakespeare. He asked if I would be interested in drawing the amphitheater in Old Louisville's Central Park. Kentucky Shakespeare, they have a guest from a Shakespeare trust fying in on Oct. 13 from Stratford-uponAvon, Shakespeare's hometown in England. I need to have the drawing completed by then."
