2013 1917 The structure is again gutted by fre, this confagration on a snowy night nine days before Christmas. Gasoline explosions from automobiles stored on the basement and second foors contribute to the blaze. Alert workers and passersby manage to drive frst-foor cars to safety. The recently renamed Louisville Carriage and Taxicab Co. abandons the site and moves to new quarters at Second and Walnut streets. 1919 Local architect J.J. Gaffney revises but largely reconstructs Curtin's original design, and the two-story building becomes the Bosler Fireproof Garage, handling cars for workers and customers of other buildings that will make the National Register: Kaufman-Straus, Stewart's and the old U.S. Customs House at Third and Green (Liberty) streets.
