bit the C. 1950 BUILDING BLOODLINE www.eclipsebank.com Morrissey Parking Garage (aka Bosler Fireproof Garage) 423 S. Third St. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, this now-decrepit Romanesque Revival structure — with its signature compound-arch doorway and triple-arch second foor — is a shortened, post-fre remake of a six-story building designed by architect Cornelius Curtin in the late 1880s. 1889 The cornerstone is laid for the soonto-fop Power Building, whose electricmotor-equipped rooms — lighted by Edison's bulbs on the heels of Louisville's Southern Exposition — can be rented by "manufacturers, inventors or mechanics" who might not yet have their own cuttingedge power sources. 1893 A spectacular fre destroys the largely brick-and-stucco building, thought to be freproof, although the walls of the frst two stories are salvaged for its shorter successor. Among new tenants during the next eight years: an ice-skating rink. www.yourweddingessentials.com 18 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 8.13 1901 The building is leased for use as horse stables and garage by the Louisville Carriage Co. (which eventually would become Yellow Cab of Louisville), whose ownership and management includes young lawyer Robert Worth Bingham, the future mayor, judge, U.S. ambassador and publisher of the Courier-Journal and Louisville Times. Within 15 years, garage clientele will switch from horse-and-buggy owners to automobile owners.
