food & drink EAT top5 RESTAURANT TABLES What We're Eating Now The tables we can't get enough of right now. There's also the Grape Leaf's patio and the leather chairs way in the back at Patrick O'Shea's and — well, let's just say this could have easily been a Top 25. —Olivia Harlow El Mundo (2345 Frankfort Ave.) The table to the left of the curvy bar on the dim and cramped top foor. Firstcome, frst-served. Right in the center of the chaos. Feel the electricity. And the glare from the patrons who wish they'd snagged your table. The best part? You're, um, next to the bar. Can you say "margarita"? Good. Now order one or four. Hammerheads (921 Swan St.) It's a carnivore's paradise that's (literally) underground. The table in the back-left corner, in a seat facing the door, becomes a crow's nest that lets you survey the action without being right in the middle of the elbowknocking hustle and bustle. The Cafe (712 Brent St.) With metallic stars hanging from the ceiling, colorful walls and antique furniture, this place has a Lynn's Paradise Cafe funkiness to it. Try to sit on the right side of the restaurant in the corner next to the antique stove and mirrors. Great for a group lunch. And for Italian wedding cake. Garage Bar (700 E. Market St.) Pad thai at Yang Kee Noodle. The "Havana Rumba" sandwich at Havana Rumba. Spinach-and-cheese empanada at Havana Rumba Express. Chorizo-potato tacos at Taco Punk. Fried macaroni and cheese balls at Hammerheads. Grilled chicken sandwich with applewood bacon strips and blue cheese at Bluegrass Burgers. Buffalo chicken sandwich at Bluegrass Brewing Co. Pepperoni Combos (large bag) and Yoo-hoo from the Shell on the corner of Liberty and First streets. "Shogun Slider," aka lump crab meat between "buns" made of lightly frittered and fattened sweet potatoes at Shogun. Chicken bulgogi at Charim Korean. Peanut butter-sea salt chocolate from Cellar Door Chocolates. On the pebbled patio, those tiered benches are made of — what is that, Astroturf? Cunningham's Creekside (6301 River Road) "Deconstructed" duck nachos at Seviche. Right on Harrods Creek, which empties into the Ohio River. Pick any picnic table and watch boats putter by. It's relaxing because there's not, well, a Captain's Quarters-sized crowd. 12 8 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 8.13 "ChocoMaca" protein smoothie from Life Bar. Also, the avocado ice cream at Seviche. The "skin" is chocolate. The "pit" is a gooey, chocolaty bourbon dulce de leche. Whoa. A hot dog at Slugger Field.
