62 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 8.19 Quintez Brown 18, west Louisville, political science student at U of L and Courier Journal intern In June, Brown wrote an opinion piece for the Courier Journal titled "Black people can't swim in Louisville, and it's putting kids at risk," in response to closure of public pools for the summer. "I told the whole city that I didn't know how to swim," he says. Kolb read the story and invited Brown to take classes. "That's a whole different animal, learning how to float. Trusting yourself enough to not move your body and let the water hold you. So that's where I am now, just learning how to move on my back and learning how to float."
