LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 3.19 117 Transforming Lives and Neighborhoods Louisville Visual Art has been improving lives through visual-art education, community outreach and artist engagement for over 110 years. From a creative hub now established in the Portland neighborhood, LVA cultivates the next generation of creative leaders, serving over 1,250 students annually through Children's Fine Art Classes, the Academy of Louisville Visual Art, and innovative summer camps. Each year, its Open Doors programs work with over 2,000 underserved participants, bringing exceptional art experiences and classes to at-risk youth, newly-arrived members of the community, and those recovering from abuse or neglect. Projects are tailored to meet specific needs of each population they serve, enriching individuals and entire groups. Louisville Visual Art is dedicated to supporting and celebrating artists through Artebella broadcasts, Open Studio Weekend, weekly calls for submissions and more. Its Mural Art Program beautifies and inspires the city, raising awareness of visual art, employing local artists and giving neighborhoods a vibrant voice. Louisville Visual Art aims to engage, inspire and improve our community through the arts. Mark your calendar for art[squared], the annual fundraiser in our Portland gallery where anonymous sales of original works by more than 200 artists support Children's Fine Art Classes.
