"It was the act of us sit- ting in the parking lot, typically on a fall day before football season, smashing a couple of burgers. A lot of my friends are vegan now, and I wanted to have something for them to eat." For the Dirty Vegan, he tried a lot of alternative options and landed on the Beyond Patty, made with potato starch and pea protein. Beet extract gives it that pink "bleed" color. "What's more nostalgic for someone who converted to veganism than to be able to taste a delicious — almost like a McDonald's — cheeseburger, without all the terrible things at- tached to it? The cool thing about this burger is that you don't really have to be a vegan or a vegetarian to really enjoy," Delewis says. "It tastes like a healthier and lighter version of meat.
