"The texture of the (home-laid) eggs are different — the yolk is richer, the XIJUFT BSF nVGmFS BOE UIFZ KVTU UBTUF better," says Sarah Sutherland. Her husband Lowe had not eaten eggs for years until the couple started farming their own. "I had a bad salmonella ex- perience," he says. Sarah grew up in the country, has always raised critters and likes her chickens better than dogs. "They re- ally are amusing; they have more per- sonality than people give them credit for," she says. At the moment, howev- er, there are three immature roosters in their Germantown hen house on the verge of disturbing the peace. "We hatched some eggs from a local farm and ended up with these guys," she says. They're named Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. 11.12 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE [57]
