MISCELLANEOUS Al's Bait Beer Depot 14216 Dixie Hwy. // 937-8751 Sure you can buy bait — catalpa worms and whole shad, to name a couple of live offerings — but the real sport here is hanging out with the guys at the elbow- polished beer bar. There are six batting cages for baseballers (top speed is 67 mph), three for slow-pitch and two for fast-pitch softball, accompanied by an 18- hole mini-putt golf course and a game arcade room. Take it to Carter's; they'll cut it up, store the meat for you and work up an artful trophy for your library wall. Derby Park Flea Market 2900 S. If you can't find it here, it probably doesn't exist. Dixie Cyclery 1803 Rockford Lane // 448-3448 Now that Highlands Cycle is closed, Dixie Cyclery may be the oldest bike shop in town. Carries Raleigh and Diamondback brands primarily, specializes in fixing and maintaining older bikes with hard-to-find parts. Dixie Florist 4823 Dixie Hwy. // 449-2340 Mother's Day? Birthday? Wedding? Pepper Tackle Shop 12502 Dixie Hwy. // 933-3454 If you're looking for fishing tackle, bait or hunting supplies, look for the giant smallmouth bass atop the sign on Dixie Highway. The sign is an endangered species. Skate Odyssey 7846 Dixie Hwy. // 933-5855 At this home of the Valley Jammers and the Derby City Speed Team, the blue floor glows when the black lights are on. Available for parties and events. Shively Sporting Goods 4006 Dixie Hwy. // 448-7272 shivelyteamstore.com This well-stocked sporting goods store — featuring an 8,000-square-foot showroom — specializes in team sports' products, from baseball gloves to lacrosse sticks to football helmets. It also offers school jackets, trophies and awards. Thornhill's Batting Cage 7280 Dixie Hwy. // 935-4017 The former Thornhill's Pet Store morphed into a baseball batting cage in 2014. Go figure.
