58 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 11.16 HALEY COHEN 14, freshman, Whitefield Academy The numerous trophies towering around Haley came from her time with the organization Access Broadway, where she was chosen from a national pool of auditioners. She has been performing since the age of five, with roles in The Sound of Music, Shrek, Mary Poppins and The Lion King. Next spring, she will perform on a Royal Carribean International Cruise. What was your favorite performance? "I was Brigitta in The Sound of Music. I was 12 years old and played a nine-year-old, so that was kind of weird. It was still really fun. It was one of the first shows I had a bigger part in, so I was really excited about that, because I was getting out there and doing more things. It was at Classic Melodies Performance Institute in Hillview. They do singing, dancing and music." Can you tell me about your performance on Broadway? "That was a super-fun experience. We all traveled to New York — basically my whole studio. We went to a competition called Access Broadway. We did the competition and were really successful, but then, toward the end of the trip, we performed at the PlayStation Theater, which is a Broadway theater. It was basically all of the best numbers from the competition we got to perform. We had like four numbers performed there." What's your favorite musical? "My favorite musical is Hamilton. It's like every musical theater kid's favorite musical right now. I was actually in New York when the original cast left. It was their closing show. I didn't get to see it. The tickets were so expensive." What's your dream role? "I think my dream role would be Jenna in Waitress. That's my next-favorite musical. It's about this girl and she just owns this pie store. It has really good music in it. It's more like country music. I'd just love to be her."
