PORTRAIT Photo by Chris Witzke Mitchell Border Collie The blastomycosis looked like a gunshot wound to the face. To prevent the fungal infection from spreading further, veterinarians removed Mitchell's eyes in March. After the surgery, Geoff Crowe and his wife Shannon took two-year-old Mitchell into their Crestwood home. It's a big family: nine cats and two other dogs. "We already had a half-blind cat and full-blind cat," Shannon says. After two weeks, Mitchell was maneuvering as if he could see, recognizing touch signals and voice commands like "careful," "left" and "right." And he was "tracking." "When cats enter the room," Geoff says, "he looks like he is watching them." — Margo Morton e Bit
