Best Bridge Design Portland-Shippingport Bridge Best TV Morning Host Candyce Clifft "Te Sound of Silence," by Simon Clifft has been at WDRB for 15 years and has been doing mornings since 2003. Tis is the soundtrack to her life: "Running on Empty," by Jackson Browne —"If my life were a song, this would be it. Te alarm goes off at 2:45 a.m. It's not natural to get up in the middle of the night; you just get used to functioning tired. People ask me if I still wake up early on Saturdays, and I'm like, 'No, of course not!'" "Eye of the Tiger," by Survivor —"I'm not one to stay in bed or hit snooze. Once I'm vertical, I'm awake. I shower at night, put my clothes out the night before. I always joke that I'm like Wonder Woman; I spin around and come out dressed and ready to go. I don't actually put on my makeup until I get to work." [58] LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 7.12 and Garfunkel —"It takes me 15 to 18 minutes to drive to the station, and I'm there by 3:30 a.m. Tere's no traffic; it's just me." "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," by James Brown —"Te guys at work joke that this should be the morning show's music. I'm definitely outnumbered by men, but I can handle it just fine!" "Hungry Like the Wolf," by Duran Duran — "I feel like I'm always eating. I don't really sleep, so I eat for energy." "On to the Next One," by Jay-Z — "Four hours of broadcast is a marathon, followed by meetings. By 11:30 a.m. or noon, I go home and try to take a nap —which doesn't always happen (if not, 'Stay Awake' from Mary Poppins). Ten I pick up my youngest, who's almost eight months old, at preschool at 3:30 p.m. and head to get the other two, who are 10 and six, at elementary school ('You Are the Sunshine of My Life,' by Stevie Wonder). I'm home with them in the afternoon and the evenings. Craziness. But it really is the highlight of my day. "Every once in a while, my husband will be like, 'I'll take care of homework and baths. Why don't you take the bike and go for a ride?' I'll say, 'I'll be back in about 30 minutes,' and it'll turn into closer to an hour. I'll feel like I've had time for myself. On more than one occasion I've gone home to jog, put on my clothes, started to tie my running shoes and have woken up sitting straight up holding the laces. I've fallen asleep sitting there!" "At Last," by Etta James —"As soon as I can get the kids to bed, I go to bed — which is usually like 9:30 p.m." — As told to Skylar Korby EC Photo by Amanda Bates
