76 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 12.15 FOOD FIX 50-WORD REVIEW DEATH-ROW DINING WHAT'S IN A NAME? Photos by Mickie Winters Andy Gaukel is appearing as both Fezziwig and Fred in A Christmas Carol (Nov. 24-Dec. 23) and as Alf in Peter and the Starcatcher (Jan. 26-Feb. 17) at Actors Theatre. We asked him to create his perfect local last meal. Drink: The "hop" tap at Against the Grain (401 E. Main St.) "The four dudes who own this place have created an amazing brewery that isn't afraid to try new things. The frst thing I do when I go to ATG is check the board to see what the 'hop' selection is. Some of my faves they have tapped are Citra Ass Down and Hop! Or My Mom Will Shoot." Appetizer: Barbecue wings from the Back Door (1250 Bardstown Road) "The people at the Back Door just know how to make really amazing bar food. Besides the diverse crowd, the only other thing better than the wings are the amazing pours." Entrée: A fve-inch "roundhouse" deep-dish pizza with onions and green peppers from New Albanian Pizzeria (3312 Plaza Drive, New Albany) "Hands down, the best pizza place in the world. The burnt cheese on the edge is the key." Dessert: Tiramisu from Le Gallo Rosso (1860 Mellwood Ave., Suite 112) "Chef Annette Saco gave me my frst job in Louisville at her former location on Bardstown Road. She is one of the most generous and caring people I know, and her food is absolutely no-B.S. goodness. I think she deserves some serious recognition, ESPECIALLY for her amazing desserts." Over the 9 (120 S. 10th St.) is the restaurant inside the building that houses Old 502 Winery and Falls City Brewing Co. "We settled on a name pretty early on," manager David Hagan says. "We could be four or fve blocks east of here and doing two or three times the business, but the idea was to bring people past the Ninth Street ramp. For us, it's kind of a mission: We used a contractor from the Portland neighborhood, a Portland steel fabricator, Falls City Lighting. We would like to think that more companies will look at the area. Also, about the name, ownership has ties to Cincinnati, and there's the Over-the-Rhine area there." Migo 2222 Dundee Road Got taco fatigue? Migo (formerly Loop 22) could be your cure. The latest restaurant from the culinary team behind always-a-line-out-the-door Hammerheads and Game is a must-visit. Fluffy yuca tots, churros, lima beans, wagyu chorizo tacos. Bring a group of friends who don't mind sharing.
