Project: Family Room
"The saffron- colored drapery panels are hung high with a break at the floor, similar to the way a man's pant leg breaks on his shoe."
"A traditional wingback chair was replaced with two tuxedo chairs in a modern print with contrasting olive cheetah fabric on the back. They're armless, so they don't obscure the mantel."
"The color scheme is a spicy mix of saffron, tangerine, chocolate and sage that worked not only with the wall color but with the wood floor, which has an orangey tone."
"The champagne- finish, basket- weave mirror over the fireplace casts interesting shadows when the spotlight above it is turned on."
"The sofa offers a lot of seating, but it's really long. Muted orange and gold velvet pillows with leather buttons were used to
visually bring it in."
The owners of this modest 30-year-old ranch in Jeffersontown's Gaslight Estates subdivision had updated their kitchen but were in a quandary over how to tie it in with the adjoining family room. They painted the walls taupe, ordered a new chocolate leather sofa, bought two-inch blinds for the windows and a big-screen TV and then hired decorator Kristen Pawlak to pull it all together.
