18 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 10.14 21Qs 21 questions Illustration by Kendall Regan Margo Morton Earliest childhood memory? "On my last day of kindergarten, we got to shoot water balloons from slingshots. I could not suggest a more fun activity for six-year-old me or current me." What song has been stuck in your head lately? "'Shake It Off,' by Taylor Swift. What can I say? It's catchy with a good message." In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job? "As an editor, I help lead and hopefully inspire a group of journalists; as a high school student, I make sure not to miss the next PowerPoint slide in an effort to get all the notes." What would be your last meal in Louisville? "The lamb burger at Mussel and Burger Bar. Nothing else compares." Who's somebody doing big things in Louisville and is fying under the radar? "RedEye! People liked our 'Purge' coverage, but we were awesome before, and we're awesome after. I always want us to be on the radar." The best job you've ever had? "I work seasonally at a pet hotel, playing with dogs for hours at a time. It's probably the best job I will ever have." What Louisville band would you pay to see? "Several Hundred People. I picked up an album of theirs after volunteering at a WFPL member- ship drive." Your drink? "Tall glass of chocolate Nesquik. Self-stirred." Favorite possession? "I have a leather bracelet that gets worn out, and I always buy a replacement for it in Pawley's Island, South Carolina. I think I'm on bracelet number four." All-time favorite Louisville athlete? "Mary T. Meagher. I worked at her eponymous aquatic center for my frst job. Got to go with her." The most you ever lost on a horse race? "Haven't started my gambling career...yet." If Louisville had to be known for something other than the Derby, what should it be? "Having a state-of-the-art aquarium. Meaning we need to get a state-of-the-art aquarium. Because I really like aquariums." Best book you've read over the past year? "The Lonely Polygamist, by Brady Udall. I will not give away anything, except that, yes, it is in fact the story of a man who is lonely despite his four wives and 28 children." Can't-miss TV show? "I mostly rely on Netfix for any TV watching. Favorites include Parks and Rec and Bob's Burgers." What flm has had the greatest infuence on your life? "Freedom Writers. It is the single most inspiring story I have ever heard, and I was completely devastated when Netfix removed it." Biggest regret? "I sold all of my Harry Potter books to Half-Price Books. I desperately want to reread them." Best date spot in Louisville? "Any of the parks, especially in the fall." What tattoos do you have? "Currently zero. I turn 18 in two months, though, so you can ask again then. If forced to get one today? A lavender peony on my right shoulder. (Tip to possible suitors: I LOVE fowers.)" Benedictine? "If it's in the house, I feel obliged to have a taste. Then I remember why I take only a taste." What's something nobody knows about you? "I got to ride in the Goodyear Blimp when I was younger and even sat in the pilot's seat." If Actors Theatre staged a production about your life, what would it be called? "Where Did My Pencil Go? (And Other Minor Annoyances)." Morton, 17, is the co-editor-in- chief of the website RedEye at duPont Manual High School. She lives in Prospect. brazeiros.com
