I'm a loser, I'm a loser And I'm just what I appear to be Of all the bets I have placed and have lost There is one line I should not have crossed I bet the rent and car payment, my friend My beting skill I can only pretend I'm a loser, I'm a loser And I can't buy a clue, that's clear to me 42 TIP Horses get all the atention, but other creatures call the Churchill Downs backside home. Say hello if you spot this fufy resident. Beter yet, bring a can of tuna. BETTER SAFE THAN SLOPPY. 44 TIP 47 TIP 45 TIP PICK A COLOR, ANY COLOR. 46 TIP P IC K A NUMBER, ANY NUMBER. Photo by Ted Tarquinio Photo by Ted Tarquinio CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHOES. Everybody goes on and on about Derby hats, but choosing the right shoes for Derby Day is just as crucial. But, oh, what a pain coming and going to the Downs in your sky-high stiletos — especially if it rains. The answer is to worry not a whit about the total impracticality of your stylish footwear selection. Spend away! Then drop by Kmart (or dig around in your closet) for an old pair of comfortable tennis shoes or fip-fops. Slip those on and place your precious pumps in a litle bag. Glide over rough sidewalks, around deep puddles and through broken glass. Avoid the mud, the blood and the beer. And skip the blisters, too. Once inside the clubhouse confnes, make the switch for style. Galoshes? 26-43.indd 40 3/20/14 10:02 AM
