Louisville-area Public School Options Louisville metro-area public schools offer a variety of options to ft just about any child's specifc interests or needs, including "traditional," "magnet" and "optional" schools and programs. Students new to the district may apply after the deadlines, but placement depends on available openings and schools' specifc admissions criteria. To learn more about these options, contact your local public school district. The application period for middle and high school optional programs begins in early November and ends in early January. Applications for elementary school optional programs begin in early February and end in early March.
