Sophia Samutin (pictured with Izzy) Andruw Stewart 17, Sacred Heart Academy, senior 13, Farnsley Middle, eighth grade Most Likely To . . . run an environmentally conscious empire. Most Likely To . . . discover a piece of Earth's history. Sophia started her own business, Eggs & Herbs, raising organic chickens and turkeys and selling eggs and meat to Harvest, Rainbow Blossom and Blue Dog Bakery and Cafe. Andruw led his school to the state Governor's Cup for the frst time in the science competition. He also won the Jeferson County Spelling Bee in 2013 and went to state for the geography bee. How did you get into the chicken biz? "We moved here from Chicago, and I've always looked for ways to make my own money. I've never liked the idea of working at Panera or something. We moved to my grandmother's farm in Shelbyville, and I was like, this is an opportunity to learn something new." What was the Governor's Cup like? "District was 'easy-peasy.' Region is a litle bit tougher. But state, that's where the real players are. That's hardballing right there." What do you do when you're not taking care of chickens? "I like to cook; I really enjoy learning how to use the products we grow on our farm. And I really enjoy writing." Do you have a favorite dish? "I like making soufés. People are daunted by them, but they're prety basic if you know the simple steps. You can make them sweet, savory; you can mix them with anything, so I think they're really versatile." Any particular area of science? "Paleontology. I grew up reading about dinosaurs, prehistoric animals, as long as I can remember. I have a penchant for carnivores." What do you like to do besides study science? "I like to read a nice novel every once in a while, watch TV, play Xbox, go on the Internet." What's your favorite book? "World War Z by Max Brooks. Very well writen. Even though the subject (zombies) is a litle tired now, it's still beter than the movie." What do you want to do someday? "Own a really big international company one day. I want to go into sustainable water. That's what I'm looking at for the future." Favorite movie? "Jurassic Park. Classic. First movie I watched. Watch it again in a heartbeat." Where do you want to go to college? "Either Yale or Stanford." Where do you want to go to college? "I want to start out at U of L and then get into Yale because they have a good paleontology program." 54 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 11.13
