It's a Go on SoFo style & fashion When the city contacted Melissa Willis with incentives to move Les Filles, her threeyear-old handmade crafts and jewelry store in Westport Village, to 558 S. Fourth St. (between Muhammad Ali Boulevard and Chestnut Street), she packed up. "I saw the potential," she says of an artisan block that, along with the 600 block to Broadway, is being called SoFo. "I just wanted to be part of the growth." Her store joins Block Party, Craft(s) Gallery and Art Eatables and other shops opening second locations on the strip, including Regalo (also at 982 Barret Ave.), Gifthorse (also at 805 E. Market St.) and Celebrations (also at 3632 Brownsboro Road). The move to South Fourth isn't the only way Willis has been on the cusp of a movement. "When I started my business, there were hardly any stores that carried handmade jewelry," she says. Now, a row of stores (minus a few wig shops) carry such items. Willis says she's always had a passion for handcrafted jewelry. "Real art. Wearable art," she says.
