You come up and theyÕre like, ÔOh, what are we gonna do today?ÕÓ In a Kubota utility vehicle, she rumbles toward two hoop houses at Dutch Creek Farm Ñ 300 acres of green roller-coaster hills in Pleasureville, Ky., some 40 miles east of Louisville. When the Kubota arrives, dozens of Broad Breasted Bronze turkey heads shoot into the air, each neck as erect as an antenna. Sometimes, she feeds the birds pumpkins or apples. Since 1981, Schlosnagle and her husband Doug, both 56, have been running Dutch Creek. Their children, Chelsey and Jared, study agriculture at Eastern Kentucky University and work the farm, too. There are 86 turkeys. Schlosnagle expects 16 pounds on the high end. One year, they had a 40-pounder. ÒLooked like a steer carcass,Ó she says. To reserve a bird, customers put their names on a list at Rainbow Blossom and the farmersÕ market in St. Matthews. I ask Schlosnagle if any of the turkeys will get a pardon. ÒNope. No pardons,Ó she says. ÒBut if the president wants to come and pardon one, weÕd invite that.Ó What does she think of Tofurky? ÒWhat is that?Ó she asks. I tell her itÕs made of tofu. ÒItÕs tofu? And they make it taste like turkey? Huh. Wonder what that would look like.Ó — Josh Moss z Photo by Chris Witzke PRESS RELEASES the LIST cross ROADS PORTRAIT President Paul?
