Diamond Pub & Billiards (2006) 630 Barret Ave. // 690-7040 diamondpubandbilliards.com A room with rows of pool tables, plus a huge concert hall hosting local and national acts, plus TV after TV after TV, plus fried goodness equals simple math: a venue not to be missed — music, sports, or otherwise. Also located in St. Matthews. Dundee Tavern and Grill (1997) 2224 Dundee Road // 458-6637 dundeetavern.com From the outside, the bar looks more like a barn. Inside, we recommend catching a U of L game on one of the many high-def TVs and ordering a cup of the white-bean chili. Falls City Tasting Room (2013) 545 E. Barret Ave. fallscitybeer.com Taste the various Falls City brews. No, really, taste 'em all. We've not found one we don't like. Flanagan's Ale House (1999) 934 Baxter Ave. // 585-3700 osheaslouisville.net/fanagans Head through the courtyard in the back of this Irish pub and enter the annex building, where a DJ has turned the crowd into a sweaty dance mob. Flip Flop Jack's (2012) 436 Baxter Ave. // 742-3547 fipfopjacks.com Louisville's Key West beach bar. Get tiki, err, freaky. Also, check out the attached concert venue named Alley Cats. Headliners Music Hall (1998) 1386 Lexington Road // 584-8088 headlinerslouisville.com Gathering the best local, national and international acts (many of whom are on the rise), Headliners sort of feels like a second home. Hideaway Saloon (1996) www.atasteofkentucky.com 1607 Bardstown Road // 485-0114 hideawaysaloon.com True to its name, it's in an easy-to-miss location down an alleyway. If you can fnd it, you'll be rewarded with good live music and a nice beer selection. Highland Liquors 1117 Bardstown Road // 409-7171 highlandliquors.net It's a liquor store, sure, but also a bar with live music on the front patio. Highlands Taproom (2001) 1279 Bardstown Road // 459-2337 highlandstaproom.com This bar, which is basically a shotgun house, has some of the best karaoke in town. Hurry up and sing your song because this location is set to close at the end of this year. Holy Grale (2010) 1034 Bardstown Road holygralelouisville.com Every time we enter this beer bar in a former church, the selection of globally sourced draft beers changes from the last time we were here. The beer garden is where you'll be spending a lot of time this summer. Hallelujah. Jim Porter's Good Time Emporium (1990) 2345 Lexington Road // 452-9532 jimporters.com Ah, you're at Jim Porter's (aka "the Wrinkle Room")? Surely you aren't expecting a one-night stand? Kern's Korner (1978) 2600 Bardstown Road // 456-9726 All we're saying is that if you're not a regular, the bartender's probably going to notice. It's also worth pointing out that there's a reason Kern's Korner is crowded. Mixer (2013) 1565 Bardstown Road // 384-1565 mixerlouisville.com Fresh to Bardstown Road. Fresh piano tunes. Fresh martinis. Molly Malone's (1998) 933 Baxter Ave. // 473-1222 mollymalonesirishpub.com Grab your Guinness and climb the stairs to the outdoor patio, which offers the best view of busy Baxter Avenue on a weekend night. The Monkey Wrench www.eclipsebank.com 1025 Barret Ave. // 582-2433 This bar is located in a former garage and features an interesting mix of DJs, live bands and parties on the newly renovated rooftop deck. They also serve a full dinner menu and brunch on the weekends. 6.13 LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE 63
