style & fashion Kala Farineau Louisville native Kala Farineau, 19, is a freshman at Hanover College. Photographed on Bardstown Road near Scissorhands Salon. How would you describe your personal style? "It changes every day. I love eccentric colors, love tights — tights are my pants. Everyone's like, 'Oh, you're so cold!' and I'm like, 'No, they're my pants! It's OK!' Tights are easier to mix with things. I like different patterns. I like to mix up colors and not exactly match — like one color may match but everything else is different hues, different shades of different colors." Where do you shop in town? "Goodwill all the way. Love Goodwill. Love little consignment stores — Urban Attic (1608 Bardstown Road) is awesome, Nearly New Thrift Shop (1250 Bardstown Road) is awesome, Dot Fox (1567 Bardstown Road). I'll go to Forever 21 just to get a couple things I need. This jacket is from there, but a lot of things are from Goodwill. WHY Louisville for my Louisville pride, my Highlands pride (pointing to the T-shirt she's wearing)." What's your favorite fashion era? "I feel like a lot of people are pullin' from the '90s right now." Who inÁuences how you dress? "I like (singer-songwriter) Regina Spektor. I don't necessarily dress like her, but there are a couple of things she wears, like her red stuff; her red lipstick is pretty fun. (Singer) Lily Allen's really fun. I like to dress kinda like her." How would your friends describe how you dress? "Like a modern Lady Gaga, maybe because of the color of my hair or all the colors I wear. I'll wear tutus sometimes to school. All throughout high school, I was the girl with the mismatched clothes; if I didn't wear mismatched clothes, then something was going wrong." What do you Ànd yourself wearing the most? "Blue. I love this color blue (pointing to her skirt). Lots of blues, lots of reds. The complementary colors, or the extremes — blue and green, blue and red, yellow and blue. Mix up the end of the spectrum." Why is it important to you to have a unique sense of style? "It's like, 'That girl! I wanna look like that girl!'"
